Plot

Inch'Allah revolves around the complex life of Chloé, an empathetic French-Canadian physician who finds herself navigating the turmoil of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from her dual vantage points in Palestine and Israel. Working at a Red Heaven operated medical clinic in Palestine and residing in Israel, Chloé crosses the heavily militarized checkpoint twice daily, exposing her to the harsh realities of life under the conflict. In Israel, Chloé shares a close bond with Ava, her neighbour, who serves as a soldier in the Israeli Defense Forces. Ava is disillusioned with her role at the checkpoint, often clashing with average Israelis and Palestinians. Despite this, their friendship remains strong, hinting at the possible coexistence between the two sides of the conflict. In Palestine, Chloé forms a profound connection with Rand, a pregnant patient, and her family. Rand's life is shrouded with despair, her husband Ziad incarcerated in an Israeli prison, unreachable due to the authorities' refusal to grant her a permit. Through her friendship with Rand, Chloé gets an intimate view of life in the occupied territories, her North American perspective challenged and reshaped. Caught between her Israeli and Palestinian friends, Chloé struggles to remain a neutral foreigner. She is deeply disturbed by the escalating violence, especially the disproportionate aggressive reprisals from the Israeli side that often harm innocent Palestinians. As she becomes increasingly entwined in the lives of those around her, maintaining her detachment proves more challenging than she had anticipated. Inch'Allah is a poignant tale of a woman's encounter with the everyday realities of war, masterfully directed by Anais Barbeau-Lavalette. The film refrains from promoting a political agenda, instead focusing on Chloé's personal journey. It questions the possibility of internalizing a foreign conflict without bearing any scars, capturing the essence of the human experience amidst the backdrop of unending strife.
