Emerging from the cold, hard confines of a fifteen-year prison sentence, Juliette Fontaine (Dame Kristin Scott Thomas), a once-revered medical doctor, finds herself stepping into an unfamiliar world. Accused of the murder of her son Pierre, Juliette has spent a decade and a half in isolation, her name wiped from the memories of her family and her life reduced to a mere whisper.
