Plot

Emerging from the cold, hard confines of a fifteen-year prison sentence, Juliette Fontaine (Dame Kristin Scott Thomas), a once-revered medical doctor, finds herself stepping into an unfamiliar world. Accused of the murder of her son Pierre, Juliette has spent a decade and a half in isolation, her name wiped from the memories of her family and her life reduced to a mere whisper. Now on probation, Juliette makes her way to Lorraine to live with her younger sister Léa (Elsa Zylberstein) and her family. The atmosphere is tense, as the once close-knit siblings try to navigate the unsaid and the unknown. Juliette's bitterness and introspection make it challenging for her to connect with her brother-in-law Luc (Serge Hazanavicius) and her young nieces. Her life is punctuated by regular visits to her probation officer, Captaine Fauré (Frédéric Pierrot), and a desperate search for a job to reconstruct the ruins of her existence. However, the unexpected compassion from her sister Léa acts as a gentle thaw to Juliette's icy demeanor. As the days unfurl, the boundaries between Juliette and her sister's family begin to blur. She finds unexpected camaraderie in Léa's friends, particularly Michel (Laurent Grévill), Léa's work colleague. Gradually, Juliette's cold exterior begins to crumble, revealing glimpses of the woman she once was. This poignant journey of healing and redemption reaches its climax when Léa uncovers the hidden truth about the death of Pierre. "I've Loved You So Long" is a moving exploration of the human capacity for forgiveness and the extraordinary power of familial bonds, even when stretched to their breaking point.
