Plot

Nestled on an isolated, desolate island, the Hotel Splendide stands as a chilling testament to the unusual vision of its late proprietor, Edna Blanche. Accessible only by a monthly ferry, this family-run health spa resort is a surreal realm of peculiar treatments and odd gastronomic delights. After Edna's demise, her son Dezmond, plagued by a skin condition, takes the reins. In a tribute to his mother's legacy, Dezmond introduces an intricate heating system, fueled by the byproducts of the hotel's operations, replicating the eerily consistent quality that characterized Edna's reign. The family's eccentricities don't end with Dezmond. Ronald, the head chef, limits his culinary repertoire to exotic dishes crafted from eel and seaweed, while the timid Cora spearheads the spa services, specializing in treatments that avoid physical contact with guests. The hotel's peculiar charm, however, fails to retain guests, and its patronage dwindles alarmingly. Enter Stanley Smith, a young man sent to the hotel by his parents to confront his aquaphobia. His arrival coincides with the unexpected return of Kath, the former sous chef, who left five years prior due to a disagreement with Edna. Kath's return, prompted by a mysterious letter allegedly from Ronald, stirs up dormant emotions, causing ripples in the hotel's operation and the Blanche family dynamics. The letter's origin and purpose become an enigma that the inhabitants must unravel, while Kath remains stranded until the arrival of the next ferry. Despite Ronald's resentment, Kath's presence infuses a spark of life into the gloomy hotel, affecting everyone, especially Stanley. Yet, whether her positivity can withstand the spectral influence of Edna, who seems to govern the hotel from beyond, remains to be seen. The Hotel Splendide is a unique exploration of a family's eccentricities, unrequited love, and the struggle to change amidst the spectral shadows of the past.
