Plot

In the rugged landscapes of Nepal's Dolpo, an old chieftain, Tinle, grapples with loss and legacy against the unforgiving backdrop of nature. As his son perishes on a journey from Tibet's salt lakes, Tinle's world shatters, and he points a finger of blame at his son's companion, Karma. This blame manifests in his refusal to endorse Karma as the new leader, triggering a battle of wills that echoes across the Himalayas. Tinle, driven by grief and defiance, assembles a competing caravan to transport salt to lower Nepal, trading it for vital grain. This ragtag group comprises old men bound by loyalty, his son's widow etched with sorrow, his innocent grandson, and his monk-like second son. They embark on this daunting journey, their determination flickering like a lone torch against the vast, icy wilderness. Meanwhile, Karma, fearing impending storms, departs the village prematurely, disregarding the auspicious date determined by the lamas. As the two caravans wend their way through treacherous passes, Tinle's group eventually intercepts Karma's. In the shadow of the towering Himalayas, the two stalwarts clash, their stubbornness as unyielding as the mountains themselves. Amid this intense confrontation, Tinle's young grandson watches, his eyes reflecting the lessons of leadership, endurance, and the relentless cycle of life.
