Plot

Revered high school chemistry teacher, Gilbert Adkins, finds his celebrated thirty-year career on the brink of ruin as he is accused of sexually assaulting senior student, Devon Cavanor. Despite his vehement denial of the accusation, his reputation is stained as Devon's story is backed by Traci Scott, a new, vulnerable senior at the school. Traci, battling her insecurities and desperate to fit in, steps forward as the alleged eyewitness, even though she harbors no spite against Mr. Adkins. She sees this lie as a lifeline to support Devon, a privileged yet manipulative student, who she fears will not be believed otherwise. As the scandal unfolds, the situation takes a grim turn when Mr. Adkins is found dead, his abandoned car and a suicide note near a bridge the only remnants of his despair. His daughter, June Gailey, who until recently was oblivious of her father's existence, cannot accept the suicide narrative. Already sharing a profound bond with her newfound father, she rushes back from her teaching assignment in Uganda to investigate the allegations that led to his tragic end. With the help of Steve Dawson, a family friend and school district employee, June secures a teaching position at the same high school, bringing her closer to Devon and Traci. Her mission: unveil the truth behind the accusations, determine if Traci's corroborations are indeed fabricated, and unearth the reason behind her deception. Unbeknownst to Devon and Traci, June is the daughter of the man they accused, making her investigation all the more perilous. As June delves deeper, she inadvertently steps into a web of deceit and danger. Her relentless pursuit of truth and justice could potentially unearth secrets that put not just her, but also Traci, whose guilt is starting to consume her, in grave danger. "Guilty at 17" is a compelling story of scandal, lies, and the desperate search for truth, where the stakes are as high as the cost of a single lie.
