Plot

Immersing viewers in the intoxicating, libertine world of early 1930s Berlin cabaret, the film Gripsholm unfurls the narrative of Kurt - a German-Jewish publisher and celebrated cabaret star, inspired by the real-life intellectual and author, Kurt Tucholsky. His razor-sharp wit and provocative chanson lyrics have won him fame, but his incendiary writings about the Nazis have also stirred ominous waters. As summer 1932 dawns, Kurt seeks respite from the brewing storm, embarking on a journey to the enchanting Swedish palace of Gripsholm. Accompanied by Lydia, his lover, Billie, a seductive vaudeville singer, and Karlchen, a fervent aviator, their story unfolds amidst the idyllic setting. But as laughter echoes and relationships intertwine, a sense of change lingers in the air - a telling sign that life, as they know it, is on the precipice of a transformation they can scarcely fathom.
