Plot

In the harrowing year of 1987, Sudan's Muslim regime declares a chilling death sentence to all Christian southern males, inciting a desperate exodus of 27,000 boys to the uncertain shelters of Ethiopia. This unforgiving journey continues in 1991, when they are compelled to embark on a perilous journey to Kenya, with only 12,000 surviving to find a semblance of refuge in a U.N. camp in Kakuma. The film meticulously captures their thousand-mile odyssey and the raw realities of life in the camp. Our narrative narrows to focus on three resilient individuals who seize the chance to rebuild their lives in the U.S. John Bul Dau, finding his new home in Syracuse, rises to become a voice for the lost children of Sudan. Daniel Abol Pach and Panther Bior find themselves navigating the unfamiliar streets of Pittsburgh. All three juggle multiple jobs, sending remittances back to the camp and tirelessly searching for family members torn away by the brutal civil war. As they acclimate to the starkly contrasting American lifestyle, they yearn for an education and grapple with the profound longing for their homeland. The film delicately unravels their inspiring journey of survival and adaptation, capturing their indomitable spirit against the backdrop of a world that seems to have forgotten them.
