Plot

In the stifling confines of 1891 Paris, renowned artist Paul Gauguin yearns for the raw authenticity that his soul and artistry crave. The city's smog-drenched atmosphere, steeped in artificiality and conventionality, suffocates him, driving him towards the pristine allure of Tahiti. Despite his pleas, his wife Mette and their five children refuse to embark on this journey to the fabled Paradise Lost, leaving Gauguin to voyage into the unknown alone. In the lush tranquility of Tahiti, Gauguin finds his sanctuary in the remote village of Mataiera, a world away from the bustling Papeete. He immerses himself in a simple, native-made hut, where the island's primitive artistry becomes his muse. His hands soon become instruments of passion, painting and carving in a style that mirrors the island's unadulterated beauty. Gauguin's two-year sojourn is a mosaic of highs and lows. He grapples with poverty and battles debilitating cardiac issues. Yet, amidst these adversities, he finds a slice of happiness in the arms of Tehura, a radiant young native girl. His time in Tahiti becomes a testament to his pursuit of authenticity, reflecting in his art and life, shaping him as an artist and a man.
