Plot

In the sultry swamps of Florida, Pickett Smith, a dedicated freelance photographer, navigates the murky waters to capture the stark reality of pollution for an ecology magazine. His solitary quest is abruptly disrupted when a motorboat, manned by sibling duo Clint and Karen Crockett, overturns his canoe. With Pickett far from shore, the Crocketts extend an invitation to their grandfather's secluded island estate, a sanctuary where family traditions are held in high regard. The island is ruled by the Crockett family patriarch, Jason Crockett, an irascible, physically impaired millionaire with an old-world charm and a severe aversion to nature. Marking his birthday each year on the 4th of July, Jason commands a grand celebration, inviting his entire family to revel in the festivities. The island, however, is plagued by an unsettling infestation of frogs and reptiles, a fact that does not sit well with the nature-loathing Jason, who has tasked his caretaker with eradicating these unwelcome guests. As Pickett delves deeper into the island's secrets, he recognizes the precarious balance of nature that Jason so recklessly disrupts. The island's inhabitants, from the smallest frog to the creepiest crawler, have been poisoned, their home defiled. But nature is a force to reckon with, and soon, Pickett uncovers that the island's dwellers are not the only ones at the mercy of a deadly poison. As the 4th of July celebrations reach their peak, an unforeseen reckoning brews in the shadows - a chilling payback from nature against humanity.
