A highly intelligent and curious group of medical students attempt to find out what happens when a patient is stranded between life and death. What exactly do they experience when their hearts cease to function during the process known as "flatlining?" As their experiment progresses, the students find themselves increasingly drawn toward the unknowable, which leads to negative repercussions on their waking lives.
