Far from Home (1989)

In the heart of the remote Nevada desert, nestled in the small, forgotten town of Banco, divorced writer Charlie Cox along with his daughter Joleen find themselves stranded on the homeward leg of a cross-country vacation. Just a day shy of Joleen's 14th birthday, their journey abruptly stalls as they run out of gas. No salvation awaits at Duckett's gas station, an outpost run by a grizzled Vietnam war veteran bereft of fuel. Their only hope lies in the local supermarket and the advice of Sheriff Bill Childers, leading them towards the Palomino Guest Ranch and Trailer Park. The trailer park, a run-down refuge owned by the abrasive Agnes Reed, becomes their temporary home.
