Elmer, the Great (1933)

Elmer, a charming country lad, finds himself torn between his love for Nellie, and the lure of the big leagues when Mr. Wade, a representative from the Chicago Cubs, comes calling in his quaint hometown of Gentryville. Although Elmer's heart yearns for Nellie, her rejection propels him towards a new destiny in Chicago, where his extraordinary batting abilities crown him the king of batters, leading the Cubs to victory after victory.
