In the inaugural entry of Roach Studio's western "Streamliners" series, which includes the likes of "Calaboose" and "Prairie Chickens," we encounter the amusingly naive cowboys, Jimmy and Pidge. As the wiser yet equally clueless son of the sage, Jimmy's main responsibility is to keep Pidge from getting ensnared in romantic entanglements. Their journey begins on foot, having lost their horses in a misguided poker gamble where Pidge overestimated the value of two-pair.
Their misadventures take a turn when they end up wrangling wild Brahmas for the stern rancher Cardigan, with predictably disastrous consequences. Pidge's heart is soon captivated by Marcia, a charming guest from a nearby dude ranch. Eager to be close to her, Pidge takes up a job at the dude ranch, an action that prompts Jimmy to follow him in a comedic attempt to "rescue" his brother from his romantic folly.
The climax of this comedic western comes to a head when Jimmy, in a hilarious scheme, blacks out the bunkhouse windows to create an illusion of perpetual night, aiming to trick Pidge into standing up Marcia. "Dudes Are Pretty People" is a rollicking ride filled with humor, heart, and the occasional wild Brahma, all set against the backdrop of the timeless western frontier.
