In the not-so-distant future, the movie DRONE chronicles an ordinary yet profound morning in the life of a military Drone Operator, brought to life by the distinguished EWEN BREMNER (known for his roles in Trainspotting and Black Hawk Down). The world of drone warfare has stepped into a new era, becoming privatised, and our protagonist navigates his usual 9 to 5 grind for a drone corporation named JANA. However, this day takes an unexpected turn when he is summoned to undertake an 'early shift', burdened with the responsibility of performing a drone mission solo for the first time. Seated alone in the sterile confines of his office, he wiles away the time until his mission is greenlit, surfing the web and engaging in a game of solitaire, mirroring the mundane routine of countless other office workers. Yet, beneath this veneer of banality, a gnawing realization begins to take root. The weight of his assignment presses heavily on him as he confronts the reality of his task: to deploy a lethal hellfire missile from the joystick at his fingertips, aimed at a faceless suspect residing thousands of miles away, on the far corners of the globe. This is not just another day at the office – it's a day where he must grapple with the gravity of his actions within the impersonal realm of drone warfare.
