In the quiet solitude of the woods, Christy Palmer, a sixteen-year-old girl, unwittingly stumbles upon a chilling scene of contract murder. Her heart pounds as she gets an unobstructed view of the cold-blooded executioner. A serendipitous encounter with a passerby aids her daring escape, allowing her to alert the police. The ensuing investigation, spearheaded by Homicide Detectives Reagan West and Boyce, swiftly corners the perpetrator - Karl Harvey, a notorious drug overlord, using Christy's crucial identification. Haunted by the brutal scene she witnessed, Christy is committed, albeit shaken, to ensure Harvey's conviction by testifying in court. Her mother, Sarah Palmer, an insurance company regional manager, grapples with the terrifying risk involved in their involvement in the case. With the help of her best friend Molly Sanders, they acquire some cash and a car, before vanishing off the grid. Their new life is stripped of modern conveniences - no credit cards, no electronics - a necessary sacrifice for their survival. The gravity of their situation demands absolute secrecy from even Molly, to protect her from Harvey's wrath. Unbeknownst to Sarah, a traitorous contact from her circle colludes with Harvey, acting as a deadly link between her family and the man hell-bent on their destruction. As they navigate this treacherous path, Sarah and Christy must rely on their wits and each other to stay ahead of the relentless pursuing danger, in the desperate hope of reclaiming their normal lives.
