In the insular and superstitious hamlet of Accendura, a chilling mystery unfolds as young Bruno Lo Casio mysteriously disappears. The local law enforcement, led by the village police inspector, the commissioner, and Captain Modesti, launch a relentless investigation, only to be met with false leads and dead ends. As the case intensifies, a ransom request sends the authorities on a wild goose chase, leading to the wrongful arrest of the innocent Giuseppe. As Accendura is gripped by fear and uncertainty, the unthinkable happens – more children, Michele and Tonino, fall prey to the invisible menace. Suspicion is cast upon Maciara, a local outcast known for her dabblings in black magic. However, the witch proves to be another innocent in this twisted game, and despite this, she meets a brutal end at the hands of the ignorant villagers. Amidst this turmoil, the village has become a hotspot for journalists, including the seasoned Andrea Martelli from Rome. His path crosses with Patrizi, a scandal-ridden daughter of a wealthy entrepreneur seeking refuge in the village. Drawn together by the mystery, they form an unlikely alliance, their investigation leading them to the village priest, Don Alberto Avallone. Don Alberto, known for his band of soccer-playing boys, is the son of the eccentric Dona Aurelia Avallone, who shelters her mentally challenged daughter from the world. As the body count rises and the village is consumed by dread, Martelli and Patrizi become entwined in a race against time. Believing that the Avallone's child may hold the key to the killer's identity, they delve deeper into the web of secrets and superstitions that shroud Accendura. In this unsettling landscape, where faith meets fear, the duo must unravel the truth before the unseen predator strikes again.
