Diary of the Dead (2007)

In the heart of a foreboding forest, a group of University of Pittsburgh students and their professor are engrossed in the filming of a chilling mummy horror movie. Their creative endeavour takes an unexpected turn when they catch an alarming news broadcast - the dead are rising and walking among the living. As fear grips them, Ridley and Francine choose to part ways while Jason ventures towards his girlfriend Debra Monahan's dormitory. Unsuccessful in reaching her family, Debra joins Jason and the group in Mary's van, embarking on a treacherous journey to her parents' home in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Navigating through chaos, Mary accidentally ploughs over a highway patrolman and a trio of zombies in her desperate bid for escape. Overwhelmed with guilt and religious conflict, Mary questions the reality of their victims' deaths and spirals into a dark despair, culminating in a suicide attempt. In the aftermath, they rush Mary to a hospital where the horrifying truth sinks in - the dead are indeed rising, and survival becomes a desperate game. Armed with newfound resolve, they continue their perilous journey, fighting off the walking dead in a race to reach the perceived safety of Debra's parents' house.
