Plot

In the dusty town of Tumult, Wyoming, the echo of a split-butt rifle signals the end for railway worker Harley Masters. Moments before his untimely demise at the hands of an unseen assailant, he entrusts a cryptic map to Deputy Marshal Ed Garry. No sooner is the map in his possession than Garry finds himself under interrogation by a curious ensemble: the late Master's niece, Janet, his mysterious cousin Bill Masters, influential town figure Joel Benton, and the enigmatic Doc Vinson. Garry's path crosses with the striking Claire Benton when her brother and his right-hand man, Eli Cressett, confront Garry about the coveted map. Seizing the moment, Garry accuses Cressett of being one of the elusive criminals he's been tracking. Despite being cornered, Cressett, with Benton's aid, manages a daring jailbreak. As Garry and Janet stumble upon a split-butt rifle, a chilling reminder of the murder, near the scene of a rustling raid, the plot thickens. The pair races against time to trace the weapon back to its original owner through the Winchester Arms Company. Meanwhile, the treacherous Cressett finds himself in a lethal deal with Bill Masters, the clandestine head of the gang. Promised a hefty reward to eliminate Benton, Cressett agrees, but his double-crossing nature promises a twist in this high stakes game of deceit and betrayal.
