Dawn on the Great Divide (1942)

In the rugged terrain of the Old West, U.S. Marshals Buck Roberts, Jack Carson, and Sandy Hopkins are tasked with the perilous mission of delivering a wagon train laden with essential railroad supplies to the frontier town of Beaver Lake. In the past, every such caravan has fallen prey to brutal attacks and ruthless robberies, allegedly by marauding Indians, leaving no survivors to tell the tale. Carson, however, uncovers a startling truth from his Indian allies. The tribe is innocent, their hands unstained by the bloodshed that has been so unjustly attributed to them. Driven by this revelation, Carson rides into Beaver Creek, seeking answers that lurk in the town's shadowy corners. Meanwhile, Roberts and Hopkins courageously lead the wagon train. Among its passengers are the stern Judge John Corkle, journeying to confront his corrupt brother Jim, the puppeteer controlling Beaver Lake's strings from behind the scenes, and the enigmatic duo Matt and Sadie Rand, who harbor plans of establishing a saloon and gambling house. A tragic tale unfolds when Martha Turner, pregnant and secretly wed to Jim's son, Tony, perishes in childbirth. Under the deceptive cloak of night, the train is ambushed, not by Indians, but by white men donning the guise of the natives. The assault claims several lives, including Matt Rand's, yet the majority of the supplies are salvaged. Arriving in Beaver Lake, Carson befriends the grieving Sadie, gaining her trust to the extent that she invites him to co-establish the gambling house. Together, they scheme to leverage Tony's clandestine affair with Martha to force Jim Corkle to grant them gambling privileges. Unbeknownst to them, Jim, the puppet master of the disguised renegades, orchestrates yet another assault on the wagon train as it advances towards the railroad construction site. However, thanks to the bravery of Roberts, Hopkins, and their Indian allies, the onslaught is valiantly repulsed. The pieces of the puzzle fall into place as Roberts unveils the hard evidence, unmasking the true culprits behind the attacks - Jim Corkle and his band of treacherous henchmen.
