Plot

In the heart of the 1930s, a fatherless Irish boy navigates through his life, guided by the tales of his unwed mother and four distinctive, unmarried aunts. Each woman, a vibrant thread in the tightly woven fabric of the family, offers a unique strand of emotional support, though sometimes begrudgingly. The eldest aunt presides over the household, her meddling nature often a source of comic relief and familial tension. This female-dominated world is thrown into disarray with the arrival of two men - an aging priest, too frail for his holy duties, who returns from a lifetime in Africa to spend his last days in his homeland; and the boy's enigmatic father, who bursts onto the scene with a roar of his motorcycle, only to declare his intention to fight against Franco in Spain. Despite the disruption caused by these men, the sisterhood persists. They continue to thrive, their bond resilient in the face of change. But when an unexpected event tears at their unity, the sisters must confront a new reality that threatens to unravel their carefully maintained closeness. This is a tale of love, loss, and the undeniable power of family, set against the backdrop of a rapidly changing world.
