Plot

In a world of black and white boxes, Tess (Chabert), a virtuoso crossword puzzle editor, finds her life spiraling into a chaotic whirlwind when her cleverly crafted puzzles start to bear a chilling resemblance to unsolved crimes. The tranquility of her structured world is shattered, replaced by the unnerving shadows of a police investigation. The mysterious death of an art gallery owner, a burglarized gallery, and a cryptic crossword left behind thrust Tess into the heart of the enigma. Suddenly, her meticulously designed crosswords are not just intellectual challenges but a cryptic labyrinth leading to a malevolent reality. As the likelihood of her innocence dwindles, she is compelled to step out of her comfort zone, trading the safety of her world for the unfamiliar territory of crime and violence. Enter detective Logan (Elliott), a hardened police detective whose world is as foreign to Tess as hers is to him. He initially dismisses Tess's involvement as mere coincidence, but as her uncanny knack for puzzling out clues begins to clear the fog surrounding the case, he grudgingly accepts her help. The two form an unlikely alliance, navigating the murky waters of each other's worlds, searching for a truth hidden within crosswords and crime scenes. In the midst of this tumultuous journey, Tess finds herself orchestrating a crossword tournament. Balancing her passion for puzzles with the high stakes investigation, she realizes that the answers she seeks may be hidden in the very crosswords she creates. In this enthralling game of words and wits, every clue could lead to salvation or implicate her further, turning her once serene life into a riveting puzzle to die for.
