Plot

In the shadowy corners of Washington, D.C., the lifeless body of Joseph "Sammy" Samuels is discovered in his apartment by his distraught girlfriend, Miss Lewis. The grim task of unraveling this brutal murder falls upon the shoulders of Homicide Capt. Finlay, whose trail of investigation leads him to a quartet of recently demobilized soldiers - "Monty" Montgomery, Arthur "Mitch" Mitchell, Floyd Bowers, and Leroy - all of whom had shared a round of drinks with the victim and Miss Lewis on that fateful evening. Initial questioning lands Monty in the crosshairs of suspicion, his presence in Sammy's apartment corroborated by the discovery of Mitch's wallet at the crime scene. While the narrative paints Mitch, a man wrestling with his uncertain future and troubled mental state, as the prime suspect, Finlay must tread carefully, balancing the accounts of Monty and the fiercely loyal Peter Keeley, Mitch's roommate who is adamant about Mitch's innocence. As the investigation deepens, Keeley embarks on a mission of his own, determined to unearth the truth and clear his friend's name. The night's events unfurl through a labyrinth of flashbacks, painting the picture from multiple perspectives as the boundaries blur between Finlay's official investigation and Keeley's personal quest for justice. With the lack of concrete evidence or a reliable witness, Finlay and Keeley find themselves racing against time and each other, their paths converging on the chilling motive behind the murder. As the truth dawns on them, they realize that the key to convicting the real killer might lie with the enigmatic Leroy. In a world tainted by post-war desolation, "Crossfire" weaves a tale of murder, deception, and the quest for truth, drawing the viewer into a dizzying whirlwind of suspense and intrigue.
