Combustion (2004)

In the heart of Millwood City, a chain of bewildering fires drives Scott Daniels, a seasoned engineer newly transplanted from Houston, into a spiraling investigation. The city's underbelly, once his youthful playground, now teems with lifeless rats and ominously cracking buildings, while the air buzzes with the menace of lurking gas leaks. His son Jesse, wrestling with the transition and resenting their new home, feigns illness to spend time with his fresh love interest, Carmen. She, unbeknownst to him, is the offspring of Allison Saunders, the ghost of Scott's high school romance. Carmen stumbles upon Jesse, unconscious and overwhelmed by noxious fumes, deepening the mystery. The city's mayor, Walker, a man guided solely by his political ambitions and thirst for publicity, dismisses Scott's desperate calls for immediate evacuation. Amidst the chaos, Scott, aided by his ally within city administration, Kenny Barrows, uncovers a chilling conspiracy. The source of the disaster is none other than Talbot's oil exploration firm, secretly exploiting steam pressure drilling. To their horror, they realize the city's Fire Chief Patterson, a figure of trust, has been entwined in Talbot's destructive plot, concealing their tracks and sabotaging Scott's credibility. As the city teeters on the brink of combustion, Scott must unravel the truth and fight against the corruption threatening to consume everything he holds dear.
