Cold Water (1994)

In the sprawling outskirts of Paris, Gilles and Christine, two disillusioned teenagers, struggle against the suffocating confines of their dysfunctional families and aimless lives. Their rebellion manifests in a stolen record from a supermarket, an act that catapults Christine into the unyielding grasp of a nursing home, a prison of parental design. However, the indomitable spirit of youth refuses to be quelled. Christine, fuelled by her yearning for freedom, escapes her institutionalized cage and reunites with Gilles. Together, they find solace in a haven for lost souls like themselves, a house brimming with other young runaways. Their shared dreams and desperation lead them on a journey towards the south of France, drawn by whispers of an idyllic commune where artists and free-thinkers reside. This arduous journey becomes a quest for liberation as they navigate the harsh reality of their circumstances, sleeping rough under the vast, indifferent sky. "Cold Water" is a poignant exploration of rebellious adolescence, a desperate bid for freedom, and the lengths one would go to escape the rigid order that threatens to suffocate their spirit. The question remains: will their pursuit of escape lead them to the promised sanctuary, or simply draw them deeper into the cold, unforgiving water of their reality?
