Plot

In the vibrant heart of Philadelphia, Daryl Poynter (played by Michael Keaton), a cocky commercial real estate agent, finds his life spiraling towards the edge of destruction. Under the veneer of success, he grapples with a gnawing addiction to cocaine and alcohol, although he vehemently denies having a problem. Awaking one morning, he's confronted by the lifeless body of Karen Peluso, a one-night stand who overdosed on cocaine in his bed. Simultaneously, he's thrust into a financial crisis when his employers discover a gaping hole of $92,000 in an account - money Daryl embezzled to gamble on the stock market and pay off drug debts. Haunted by possible criminal charges and haunted by Karen's death, Daryl takes refuge in a drug rehab center, intending to evade the law rather than confront his demons. He's determined to do the bare minimum needed to stay within the facility's walls, all while scheming to manage his stocks and keep his illicit activities under wraps. However, Daryl's plans are upended by the stern, unyielding guidance of the facility's counselor, Craig (Morgan Freeman). A recovered addict himself, Craig has seen every trick in the book and won't tolerate Daryl's attempts to manipulate the system. His tough love begins to chip away at Daryl's denial, pushing him towards a path of genuine recovery. In this unlikely sanctuary, Daryl forms a bond with Charlie Standers, a fellow patient struggling with addiction and an abusive relationship. With the help of his newfound allies, including his sponsor Richard Dirks, Daryl is forced to confront his life head-on, discarding the lies and deceit that have been his survival tools. The once brash real estate agent finds himself on an unexpected journey, one that might just lead him to the redemption and sobriety he never knew he needed. "Clean and Sober" is a gritty exploration of the battle against addiction, a testament to the power of determination, and the promise of redemption that lies within the struggle.
