City of Fear (1959)

In the shadowy corners of San Quentin prison, a ruthless drug dealer, Vince Ryker, executes a daring escape, leaving behind a trail of bloodshed. Driven by the insatiable hunger for power, he steals what he believes to be a cannister of experimental heroin from the prison's medical facility, unaware that it's teeming with cobalt-60 - a highly radioactive substance capable of laying an entire city to waste. The callous Ryker, donning a stolen identity after dispatching his ailing cellmate and a random motorist, sets his sights on Los Angeles. His aim is to reunite with his sultry girlfriend and the crooked businessman Crown, who serves as a front for his illicit drug operations. Little does he know that the cobalt-60, while being a potential weapon of mass destruction, is also silently gnawing at his life, poisoning him from within. Meanwhile, the authorities, understanding the catastrophic consequences of the substance falling into the wrong hands, or worse, being exposed, are thrown into a frenzied race against the clock. They must locate the deadly cannister and the unsuspecting Ryker before the city descends into utter chaos and panic.
