Plot

At the heart of Marine Corps Camp Bancroft in Virginia, Danielle Aames navigates life as a school teacher. As the Christmas season descends, it marks the poignant three-year anniversary since her husband, Major Colby Aames, mysteriously vanished after his plane was shot down over the Gulf of Aden. With his body never found, but officially declared dead, Danielle is left to grapple with his memory during a season filled with their most cherished moments - their first encounter, the proposal, their magical winter wedding, and the birth of their sweet daughter, Audrey Aames, who is eagerly awaiting her eighth birthday. Christmas holds a bittersweet taste as Danielle, with the blessing of young Audrey, has accepted the marriage proposal from Pierce Hammond, a close friend of Colby's and a civilian. As the holiday season rolls in, Audrey, whose memory of her father is hazy beyond the framed photographs in their home, starts to question Danielle about the man her father was. In response, Danielle crafts a sequence of heartwarming bedtime stories to paint a vivid picture of Colby. As she weaves these bedtime tales, Danielle encounters a series of signs that she perceives as indications of Colby's lingering presence or his desperate attempt to communicate something vital to her. Surrounded by friends and family, Danielle embarks on a journey to decipher these messages, questioning if these signs are a testament that she's not yet ready to let go of Colby's memory and truly move forward.
