Plot

In the heart of the 19th century, the seasoned and calculating British agent, Sir William Walker, descends upon Queimada, a sun-drenched Portuguese colony nestled in the Antilles. His sole aim: to ignite a revolution that would serve to sweeten the sugar trade between Queimada and England. Walker finds the spark for his rebellion in the unassuming figure of José Dolores, a water and luggage carrier with a hidden potential for leadership. Walker skillfully manipulates circumstances, and soon a slave revolt sweeps across the island, expelling the Portuguese forces. In their place rises the temporary government of President Teddy Sanchez, propped up by the hidden hand of British influence. These turbulent changes ripple through the sugar cane fields, aligning Queimada's economical interests with those of England. A decade later, the echoes of revolution resurface, as the once humble José Dolores stirs the ashes of discontent with his rebel army. Disrupting the now flourishing sugar trade, he becomes a thorn in the side of England's economic interests. In response, the Royal Company, with vested interests in Queimada's sugar cane plantations, turns to the only man who can quell the uprising: the very architect of the revolution, Sir William Walker. Caught in a bitter loop of his own making, Walker is dispatched back to the Caribbean island. He is tasked to quell the same rebellion he ignited, a rebellion that now threatens to sour the British sugar trade. Thus begins a twisted dance of power and betrayal, as Walker must face the consequences of a revolt he masterminded, and a leader he created.
