Brothers (2004)

In the heart of Denmark, two brothers lead starkly different lives. Michael, a decorated army officer, finds stability in his military career, a loving wife, Sarah, and their two daughters. On the other end, Jannik, Michael's younger brother, flounders on society's fringe, a drifter flirting with lawlessness. Their contrasting lives find an unexpected intersection when Michael is assigned to a UN peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan. In the helicopter soaring towards the rugged Afghanistan mountains, Michael's fate takes a cruel twist. His chopper crashes, and he is declared missing, presumed dead. The news shatters his family, leaving Sarah and her daughters enveloped in a cloud of despair. However, in the midst of this tragedy, Jannik, fresh out of jail, emerges from his wayward shell. He steps up, shedding his reckless persona to provide comfort and stability to his bereaved sister-in-law and nieces. As the days pass, Sarah and Jannik's relationship evolves, their shared grief birthing an unexpected connection. The bond they form transcends sympathy, hinting at emotions that neither had anticipated. But as the pair navigate this new territory, a spectre from the past returns.
