Brand of the Devil (1944)

In the harsh, lawless expanses of Texas, a nefarious group of cattle rustlers, known as the Devil's Brand gang, casts a shadow of terror and deceit. Led by the insidious Jack Varno, the gang leaves their chilling insignia - a devil's pitchfork, or the dreaded "Brand of the Devil" - on stolen cattle, a stark symbol of their ruthless reign. The gang's audacious acts of robbery and murder lure the Texas Rangers into the fray, with Jim Steele, Tex Wyatt, and Panhandle Perkins diving undercover to infiltrate the gang's stronghold. Their journey leads them to Varno's Gold Ace Saloon, a seedy hub of illicit activities. Here, Panhandle, under the guise of "Fancy Brand" McGee, sells his unique branding irons, intriguing Varno and his gang. Amid the chaos, Duke Cutter, a member of the gang, steals a prized horse from the plucky Molly Dawson, who doggedly follows him to the saloon. As a brawl ensues, Tex and Jim swoop in to rescue Molly from the clutches of the gang. The plot thickens when it is revealed that Molly's foreman, Henry Wilburn, is a mole working for Varno. Masquerading as Molly, he joins the gang in a daring cattle raid, leading to Molly's wrongful arrest. However, the cunning Rangers trail the rustlers, capturing Wilburn in Molly's disguise and swapping him into her jail cell. As the Texas Rangers continue their covert operations, they learn more about Varno and his gang. But as their knowledge grows, so does the risk of their true identities being unveiled. The tension escalates, leading to a deadly dance of power shifts and perilous close calls. The tale culminates in a high-stakes shootout at the saloon, where the line between justice and outlaws becomes blurred in a hail of bullets. The Brand of the Devil is a tense, high-octane ride into the heart of Texas' dark underbelly, where honor and treachery clash in a desperate bid for control.
