Blown Away (1994)

In the heart of Boston, a deadly game of cat and mouse unfolds as a ruthless serial bomber sets the city ablaze with fear. At the center of the storm is Jimmy Dove, an accomplished explosives expert, who has recently hung up his bomb squad badge to embrace a tranquil life with his violinist fiancée, Kate, and her young daughter, Elizabeth. However, the brutal murder of his best friend and colleague, Blanket, forces Jimmy back into the line of fire. Haunted by his past, Jimmy soon unveils the architect of this terror - Ryan Gaerity, an Irish explosives maestro so extreme that even the IRA disowns him. Gaerity, having masterminded a daring prison break from the heavily fortified Castle Gleigh using the most unconventional of explosive ingredients, has now set his sights on Boston, and more specifically, on Jimmy Dove. Underneath the guise of Dove lies the truth of Liam McGivney, a once naive Irish patriot who was led astray by Gaerity's radical ideologies. The pair's shared history is tainted by a tragic terrorist act that went awry, resulting in catastrophic loss, including the life of Gaerity's sister. Escaping the chaos, Liam fled to America, adopting the name Jimmy Dove and leaving Gaerity to face justice alone. Incensed by the betrayal and burning for revenge, Gaerity uses an abandoned gambling ship, the Dolphin, as his chilling base of operations. His calculated terror strikes, including the murder of Blanket, are designed to draw out Dove, the only man capable of stopping his reign of terror. As the shadows of his past rise to torment him, Jimmy Dove must confront his worst nightmare, risking everything to save the city he now calls home. Engaging in a deadly dance with his former friend turned foe, Dove's life becomes a race against time, each tick echoing the lethal promise of the next explosion.
