Blondie Meets the Boss (1939)

In the riotous world of Dagwood Bumstead, convenience takes a backseat when the much-anticipated vacation is delayed, forcing him to quit his job. His dynamic wife, Blondie, comes to the rescue, striking a deal with J.C. Dithers to reclaim Dagwood's job, while she assumes control of the office during Dithers' Washington trip. The roles reverse as Dagwood, now on domestic duties, is lured into a fishing adventure by a neighbor, leaving their son, Baby Dumpling, under the watchful eye of Blondie's jitterbug-loving sister, Dot. An unexpected encounter on the fishing trip with two vivacious entertainers from the Garden Café turns dramatic when Dagwood's rescue attempt of one, Francine, is captured on camera. Meanwhile, Blondie is on a mission, armed with Dithers' instructions to purchase a strategic piece of land before the owner learns of its true value as a future airport site. In the midst of this, she retrieves the developed photo of the fishing incident. As the plot thickens, Dagwood, distracted by a game of pool, loses track of Baby Dumpling, who is now at the jitterbug contest with Dot and her boyfriend, Freddie. A chance encounter at the Garden Café leads Blondie to recognize Francine from the photo, just as Dagwood arrives in search of Baby Dumpling. In a whirlwind of events, Blondie confronts Dagwood, the café owner discovers the value of his land, and a dazed Dagwood inadvertently steals the show at the jitterbug contest.
