In the picturesque labyrinth of Venice, three unsuspecting men - Mike Lawton (Bryan Brown), Maurice Horton (Richard Griffiths), and Melvin Orton (Dudley Moore) - find their lives humorously entwined by a series of comical misunderstandings at the Hotel Gabrielli. Each man embarks on his own Venice adventure, unknowingly guided by erroneous instructions courtesy of a bumbling Bellboy (Bronson Pinchot). Mike Lawton, a cold-blooded hitman, arrives with a deadly assignment to eliminate a formidable mobster. Maurice Horton, a hopelessly romantic soul, seeks the thrill of an unfamiliar romance, set up with a woman he's never met. Melvin Orton, a diligent employee, is dispatched by his boss to scrutinize a potential property purchase. However, as the Bellboy's linguistic mix-ups set in, the trio find themselves walking down paths they never intended. Maurice, expecting a rendezvous with a mysterious woman, instead encounters a bewildered realtor Caroline Wright (Patsy Kensit), who is determined to close an unexpected sale. Melvin, meant to inspect a property, finds himself in a dangerous villa, uncomfortably pitching an offer to a gang of menacing hoods. And Mike, prepared for a deadly mission, is led to a lonely-hearts lady from Huddersfield, who is far from his intended target. "Blame it on the Bellboy" is a riotous whirlwind of mistaken identities and unforeseen consequences, set against the romantic backdrop of Venice - a city as enchanting and unpredictable as the plot itself.
