In the harsh landscape of poverty, young Urvashi finds an unlikely benefactor in the much older Keshav Dalvi. Encouraged by her mother, Shanta, Urvashi fosters a bond with Keshav that transcends mere friendship. Keshav, recognizing Urvashi's potential, nurtures her talents, guiding her from a vocal artist to a celebrated actress/singer in the movie industry.
Despite her mother's disapproval, Urvashi's determined spirit leads her to marry Keshav. Motherhood soon follows, but the confines of her marriage become a gilded cage. Seeking liberation, she spirals into a series of affairs with her co-star Rajan, and Sunil Verma, a prominent film producer. Yet, the pursuit of fulfillment leaves her discontented.
A chance encounter with the affluent Vinayak Kale seems to promise a serene haven. Eager to find stability, Urvashi chooses to share her life with him, oblivious to his already established domesticity. By the time she discovers his first wife and son, she's deeply entrenched in his household, bound by its rigid rules - a woman can only depart via the solemn march of death.
