In the bustling heart of Kolkata, an era is ending. The grand, once resplendent mansions, now bruised and battered by time, are being swept away to make room for the gleaming allure of malls, multiplexes and sleek condominiums. Among these doomed edifices is the Chowdhuribari, a heritage property clinging to relevance by renting itself out to film crews. But these hallowed halls are not empty - they are home to a motley crew of spirits, each with their own quirks and eccentricities, who have sought sanctuary here over centuries. In this shifting landscape, these spectral residents find themselves in a curious predicament. They are evicted from their time-honored abode, forgotten by a society that has no 'rehabilitation package' to offer them. After all, ghosts can't vote, can they? In a world that no longer cares for them, these homeless apparitions find themselves embroiled in a battle they never anticipated - to save their only haunt from the clutches of rapacious developers. During a film shoot, an actress faints in fear, claiming to have seen a ghost reflected in a mirror. Intrigued, a filmmaker on a reconnaissance trip to Chowdhuribari stumbles upon a spine-chilling tale woven into the fabric of the house. Yet, is this just a hauntingly tall tale, or does a twist lurk in the shadows? "Bhooter Bhabishyat" is a riotous comedy that marries the flamboyance of Bollywood with a thought-provoking narrative.
