In the midst of life's turmoil, Rosa Rubinsky finds herself adrift, both in her personal world and professional landscape. As a waitress in a bustling sports arena, she leads a mundane existence, while her love life revolves around Terry Glantz, a small-time radio talk show host and one in the series of her non-committal boyfriends. When Bobby Fox, a seasoned wrestling promoter, witnesses Rosa skillfully fend off an overzealous coworker, he sees a spark of potential despite her petite stature. Convinced of her potential as a wrestler, Rosa trades the routine of her waitress job and her lukewarm relationship with Terry for a shot at an unconventional career. She plunges into the world of professional wrestling, attending wrestling school and hitting the road with Bobby's troupe of athletes. As Rosa navigates this new terrain, she discovers the profound bonds formed among the wrestlers, a necessity in their solitary lives. Some seek their other half within the group, while others yearn for a warm body to counteract the night's cold. Through this journey, Rosa also uncovers the highs and lows of the wrestling world. However, her wrestling career hangs by a thread when Bobby arranges her first match against Terrible Tommy J., the reigning queen of the arena. Although wrestling is more performance than reality, Tommy, with her superior weight and domineering persona, indulges in blurring the lines, viewing her fellow wrestlers as rivals vying for her throne. As Rosa prepares to face her formidable opponent, she must grapple with the realities of this new world she's stepped into.
