Plot

In the heartland of Western adventure, the third chapter of the Hopalong Cassidy series unfolds. The tale begins with the distressed Jim Arnold (Howard Lang), proprietor of the SV Ranch, penning a desperate letter to the rugged Hopalong Cassidy (William Boyd). Arnold’s land is besieged by a ruthless gang of cattle rustlers, led by a mysterious villain known only as Nevada. In his plea for help, Arnold requests Cassidy to leave behind his hotheaded friend, Johnny Nelson (James Ellison), hoping to extinguish the budding romance between Johnny and his daughter Margaret (Jean Rouverol). Ignoring Arnold’s request, Cassidy enlists the help of Bar 20 hand, Red Connors (Frank McGlynn Jr.), leaving Johnny in a fit of anger, devising his own plans. As Cassidy bides his time in the hills waiting for Arnold, Johnny stumbles upon George Perdue (Harry Worth), a snuff-sniffing, cultured dandy attempting to woo Margaret. Unbeknownst to Johnny, Perdue is the notorious Nevada, a man with a Napoleonic complex, leading his rustlers with iron discipline and strategy straight from the pages of history. Meanwhile, Cassidy infiltrates the ranch, donning the guise of a harmless dude. With the assistance of an old prospector, "Windy" (George 'Gabby' Hayes), the investigation begins. Cassidy’s keen eyes quickly unravel the truth - Perdue and Nevada are the same man. As the tension mounts, Cassidy signals the ranchers with a puff of smoke. Arnold's men, led by Johnny, Red and Arnold himself, storm the stronghold, guns blazing. The final showdown ensues, pitting the ranchers against the rustlers in a battle to reclaim their land and their lives.
