In the chilling expanse of the Arctic, within the heartland of the ancient Inuit nation, a malevolent spirit is conjured up by a rogue shaman. This spectral entity sows seeds of violence and discord, inciting the ruthless Sauri to usurp the position of the local chief, Kumaglak. The spirit breaks the will of Sauri's rival, Tulimaq, extending the bitter conflict into the lives of his sons, Amaqjuaq, the Strong One, and Atanarjuat, the Fast Runner. As the brothers rise to become the most proficient hunters amongst their people, the curse continues to cast its malignant shadow. The volatile Oki, Sauri's son, harbors a growing resentment towards the brothers, particularly when Atanarjuat successfully wins the heart and hand of his betrothed, Atuat. This tension is further agitated by Oki's sister, Puja, who harbors a secret desire for Atanarjuat. When she ignites conflict between the brothers, Oki seizes the opportunity to serve a chilling vengeance that culminates in Amaqjuaq's death, leaving Atanarjuat to flee naked into the unforgiving wilderness. Teetering on the brink of demise, Atanarjuat finds hope in unexpected allies who rally to his aid.
