Asher (2018)

In the shadowy underworld of the city, we find Asher (Ron Perlman), a seasoned contract killer who's dedicated most of his existence to the grim task of terminating lives, under the command of his boss, Avi (Richard Dreyfuss). His life is a lonely symphony, punctuated by the fleeting companionship of fine wine and exquisite cuisine, while he harbours a simmering resentment for his younger protégé, Uzi (Peter Facinelli), who's steadily usurping his position. When Avi entrusts Asher with a trio of contracts, part of an intricate revenge plot, Asher accepts, only to be betrayed by his failing health. This unexpected frailty inadvertently leads him to cross paths with Sophie (Famke Janssen), a ballet teacher wrestling with the heartache of her mother Dora's (Jacqueline Bisset) spiralling dementia. A delicate bond blooms between the unlikely pair, their relationship blossoming amidst a dance of unspoken secrets as Asher cannot divulge the dark truth of his profession. As their romance cautiously unfurls, Asher finds himself reluctantly partnered with Uzi for a collective assassination. When their mission momentarily falters, Asher is marked for death, placing the newfound peace that had briefly illuminated his life in grave peril.
