Plot

In the first of five heartfelt segments from the multinational feature L'amour à vingt ans (1962), titled Antoine and Colette, we follow the journey of seventeen-year-old Antoine Doinel. Having once been a youth steeped in delinquency, Antoine has now transformed into a respectable member of society, employed at Philips Records, an opportunity that allows him to bask in his fervor for music. At the Youth Concerts, Antoine's eyes find themselves drawn to the same young woman time and again, a radiant figure named Colette. Intrigued by her, Antoine yearns to get closer, and soon they begin to explore the early stages of a relationship. Yet while Antoine finds himself hopelessly in love, Colette sees him more as a confidant than a romantic interest. Despite his humble abode in a hotel and a factory job, Antoine's sincerity and charm win over Colette's parents, who encourage the blossoming companionship between the two. In his quest to transition from friend to lover, Antoine employs grand romantic gestures, hoping to sway Colette's perception of him and cement his place in her heart. Will Colette remain immune to Antoine's amorous advances, or will she eventually succumb to the infectious romance? Antoine and Colette is a tale of first adult love, a delicate dance of emotions, and the enduring hope of unrequited love finding its mark.
