In the shadowy underbelly of Melbourne, Joshua "J" Cody, a seventeen-year-old boy, lives a withdrawn life, safeguarded from his criminal kin by his mother, Julia Cody, no angel herself. But when Julia tragically succumbs to a self-inflicted heroin overdose right before his eyes, J finds himself reluctantly reaching out to his estranged family for refuge — his grandmother, the domineering matriarch Janine "Smurf" Cody, and her three volatile sons. Smurf's peculiar affection for her sons tinges their relationships with an unsettling edge. The eldest, Andrew "Pope" Cody, exudes a menacing calm as he navigates his life in hiding, a notorious armed robber pursued relentlessly by Melbourne's Armed Robbery Squad. Craig, the middle son, thrives in the frenetic world of drug dealing, while the youngest Darren, barely an adult, is an eager apprentice to his hardened brothers. As tensions escalate between the Cody clan and the Armed Robbery Squad, J finds himself ensnared in a violent war that spares few. The only hint of normalcy in his chaotic world is his girlfriend, Nicky Henry. Amid the crossfire, Homicide Detective Senior Sergeant Nathan Leckie, aware of the Cody's involvement, initiates an investigation. He attempts to sway J to his side, a move that forces J to grapple with his loyalties and survival instincts. Torn between two dangerous factions, J must navigate the treacherous waters of trust, justice, and vengeance, in a world where every choice could be his last.
