In a realm where dreams and reality bleed into one another, esteemed actress Vera Lockman is trapped in a horrifying nightmare. The chilling echoes of a violent struggle with her drug-dealer ex-boyfriend, Sal, culminate in his death by her hands. Jolted awake, she spills the terrifying truth into her journal. Sal, lifeless, is concealed in a trunk in her living room, a ghastly secret from the world. Her lover, Leon, is shown the door without ceremony. Concerned, Franklin, a filmmaker and friend, pays a visit, his probing questions stirring a whirlpool of confusion and a simmering dread within Vera. Driven by desperation, she transports the trunk to a desolate area, sinking her past into the depths of a lake. Back in the sanctuary of her loft, she is startled by the unexpected appearance of narcotics detective McCutcheon, inquiring about the missing Sal. Vera weaves a fabric of lies, momentarily convinced that she has duped the detective. During a family dinner with her mother Elaine and her fading grandfather Arthur, an unexpected guest, Carl Icahn, Arthur's old school friend, arrives. Vera finds herself drawn to Carl, a bond forged in the crucible of shared emotions. The next day unfolds with an eerie calm for Vera as she immerses herself in writing. This tranquility is shattered by the deafening crescendo of police sirens. Drawn to the window, her gaze locks with McCutcheon's. The veil of deceit begins to lift, beckoning the approaching storm.
