Aluna (2012)

In the heart of Colombia's highest mountain thrives an ancient civilization, the Kogi, who once mingled their wisdom with the Maya and the Aztecs. To them, they are the custodians of the world, their lives intricately woven into the cosmic consciousness they call 'aluna'. Their leaders, trained from infancy in the shrouded darkness, perceive 'black lines' that bind special sites that are vital to life itself. In 1990, they sounded a warning about mankind's destructive path through a British filmmaker, then disappeared from the world's eye. However, they have now concluded that their warning was misunderstood, and the world teeters dangerously on the brink of devastation. To clarify their message, they summon the same filmmaker, tasking him with documenting their demonstration of these delicate connections. Their tools are unorthodox: 400 kilometres of gleaming gold thread and a journey unlike any other. This quest introduces us to a society devoid of the wheel or written language, yet remarkably capable of discussing dark energy with leading astronomers and correctly identifying celestial bodies captured by the Hubble telescope. However, their mission faces a stumbling block when they realize that their message is lost in translation, their profound wisdom dismissed as fantasy by a local biologist. Undeterred, the Kogi take us higher into their mountain, revealing their understanding of the world in its raw, unfiltered form, before descending to ally with leading scientists who can grasp the gravity of their knowledge. Their journey, initially filled with apocalyptic omens, takes an unexpected turn, culminating in a triumphant celebration of new life. This is the story of Aluna - an exploration of ancient wisdom, invisible connections in nature, and mankind's urgent need to change its course to avoid destroying the planet.
