Plot

Marking the 30th anniversary of the Rolling Stones' calamitous Altamont concert, Altamont Now plunges viewers deep into the heart of an abandoned nuclear missile silo, lurking in the arid expanses of California's desert. Here, within this concrete cavern, resides indie rock luminary turned hermit, Richard Havoc, alongside his ragtag troupe of alt-rock renegades. In a soaring act of defiance against establishment, they seclude themselves fifteen levels beneath the surface, their rebellion echoing through the hollow tunnels. Their monotonously rebellious existence is disrupted when a seemingly conventional journalist penetrates their world of incessant 'Alternative Nation' posturing and insipid angst-filled lamentations. This intrusion triggers pandemonium, putting the potency of rock's redemption to the ultimate test. Will it rescue Havoc and the world from impending nuclear catastrophe or will Havoc himself become the harbinger of disaster, dragging half the country into his quest for something – anything – to rebel against? Altamont Now serves as a comedic sliver of Indie Rock Armageddon, a trenchant satire on how America's 'alternative' youth culture unapologetically plagiarizes rebellion from the past. In an innovative blend of 1960s rock-sploitation films, Black Panther-esque revolutionary dialogues, and cinema verite, the film offers a reimagined narrative of the infamous Altamont concert. It paints a startlingly symbolic portrayal of a generation in revolt, albeit with no cause worth fighting for. A singularly biting and introspective critique of contemporary youth rebellion in America, Altamont Now presents a refreshingly humorous yet thought-provoking cinematic experience.
