Plot

In the hauntingly poignant film After Death (2012), the unexpected demise of their estranged father, James Jones (Paul Freeman), a failed inventor who met his end in a tragic laboratory accident, forces his children to return to the ancestral estate. Each bearing the weight of their own unresolved issues, they must navigate their way through the labyrinth of their past and confront uncomfortable truths about their fractured family. Eloise (Claira Watson Parr), still ensnared in the sorrow of losing her mother and brother, struggles with finding stability in both her professional and personal life. Yossarian (Ben Shockley), the face of an uninspiring daytime TV show, grapples with the guilt of abandonment. Suki (Nicola Goodchild), the practical one, vents her frustration on her meek husband, Colin (Jonathan Hansler). As they gather under their childhood roof, the shared remorse over their brother Tom's (David Wayman) accidental death at the hands of their father seven years prior hangs heavily in the air. A lawyer (David Acton), dispatched by their devious Uncle Simon (Linal Haft), delivers the shocking news that their father had staked their inheritance on his final invention, leaving the estate in the hands of the bank. This revelation triggers a scavenger hunt as the siblings scramble to locate their father’s last miraculous invention: a connection to the ethereal realm. Teetering on the precipice of losing their childhood home and the memories it houses, the siblings must unlock the secret of their father's invention. If they fail, they risk losing their father and brother's souls to oblivion. As they plunge deeper into their shared past and wrestle with their future, they realize that their understanding of their family history is only the tip of an iceberg. After Death is a gripping tapestry of family ties, secrets, and redemption—a haunting journey that explores the ties that bind, the wounds that separate, and the lengths we'll go to for a second chance at saying goodbye.
