Basking in the limelight of stardom since childhood, the handsome and popular Chas Hunter adds another series lead to his impressive resume. Meanwhile, struggling actress Clarissa Byers finds her audition reduced to an embarrassing spectacle when she clumsily spills steaming coffee on Chas while playing the role of a waitress. As Clarissa trudges back to her hometown for her best friend's wedding, she is haunted by the specter of a floundering career and her single status. In a desperate attempt to impress her old friends, she fabricates a dazzling tale of success, claiming to be engaged to the big-time celebrity, Chas Hunter. However, as the saying goes, "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes." Her deceptive story catches the wind and soon becomes a tantalizing headline for the hungry paparazzi, threatening to tarnish Chas's hard-earned reputation. To salvage the situation, Chas's domineering ex-publicist hatches a plan: Chas should play along with Clarissa's charade, only to publicly jilt her after her best friend's wedding, thereby regaining the favor of the press.
