Plot

In a vibrant dance of unfolding destinies, Above the Street, Below the Water spins interconnected tales of individuals on the precipice of change. As the fabric of their lives begins to fray, Anne and Ask's romance succumbs to an inevitable erosion, a phenomenon akin to 'metal fatigue'. Meanwhile, Charlotte is nudged by a dawning realization that Carl, the man she thought was her match, may be an ill-suited partner. In the same intricate web of relationships, Bente stands on a crossroad, caught between the eternal wait for her lover and the freedom from the ghost of her past. Her ex-spouse Bjørn grapples with the agony of releasing the woman he once loved, a painful yet necessary goodbye. Amid this delicate chaos, their children are swept up in the escalating drama that crescendos on the opening night of Hamlet. As Anne steps onto the stage, embodying the character of Ophelia, a poignant question hovers in the air: To be or not to be the architect of one's own joy? Each character, caught in the throes of their personal struggles, must confront this existential dilemma, shaping their futures in this deeply evocative narrative.
