Aaja Nachle (2007)

As Dia (Madhuri Dixit), a New York-based dancer, twirls to the rhythm of her rehearsal, an unexpected phone call jolts her from her rhythm. Her childhood mentor, her guiding light, is on his deathbed, calling her back to her roots in India. With a heavy heart, she returns to the town that nurtured her passion for dance; a place she hastily left behind, breaking bonds with her loved ones. Her homecoming is far from sweet; her beloved guru is no more, and the Ajanta theatre, a once-thriving cultural beacon he had carefully cultivated, now stands decrepit, its very existence threatened by the bulldozers of local politicians who see it as nothing more than wasted prime real estate. Determined to resurrect Ajanta theatre to its former glory, Dia takes it upon herself to transform this dilapidated structure into a lively cultural epicenter, just as it was when it was the heartbeat of her hometown. As she battles societal prejudices, lingering resentment, and her own personal ghosts, Dia is determined to rekindle the lost spirit of her town through the magic of dance.
