In the tranquil town of Ridgewood, Washington, the Michaels family, composed of architect Liz, guitarist Gabe, and their teenage son AJ, grapples with the aftermath of a family crisis. Liz, a pivotal pillar of the family, has recently returned home from a hospital stint following a nervous breakdown, triggered by mounting stress from her demanding job at Tillman and Associates and strains within her personal life. As her family tries to piece together their shattered unity, Liz feels compelled to return to work, despite the mixed reactions from her employer, Tillman. In the midst of their tentative healing, the Michaels are blindsided by a startling revelation. A nineteen-year-old girl, Caitlin Patterson, arrives on their doorstep, claiming to be Gabe's biological daughter from a past relationship.
