Plot

In the bustling heart of Milan, lauded artist Leonardo Ferri crafts masterpieces that command the art market, while battling an ever-intensifying spiral into madness. His mind is a tumultuous canvas, riddled with sadistic nightmares in which his girlfriend and agent, Flavia, tortures and attempts to murder him. Aware of Leonardo's mental turmoil, Flavia orchestrates a move to a secluded country villa outside Venice, hopeful that a change of scene will reignite her lover's stalled creativity. Once a home to a scandalous countess who met her untimely demise during the war, the villa exudes an ominous energy that sends Flavia retreating to Milan during the weekdays. This leaves Leonardo isolated in the company of the villa's housekeeper, Egle, his unyielding madness, and a silence that amplifies the whispers of the villa's past. As Leonardo grapples with his inner demons, he uncovers the tragic tale of Vanda Valier, the villa's previous vivacious occupant, brutally killed at the tender age of fifteen. The local villagers are still ensnared by the memory of her timeless beauty, a fascination that Leonardo finds himself succumbing to. He becomes eerily obsessed with Vanda, her story seeping into his consciousness, further blurring the line between his reality and madness. As Leonardo's obsession with Vanda grows, so does the tension in his relationship with Flavia. Amidst the backdrop of this haunting villa, Leonardo must navigate the labyrinth of his mind, wrestling with the specter of a fallen countess, his crumbling mental state, and the strain on his relationship. The villa, steeped in tragedy and whispered to be under Vanda's spectral control, becomes the stage for this psychological drama, leaving the audience to question - is it the echo of Vanda's ghost haunting Leonardo, or merely the manifestations of his unraveling sanity?
